You need to apply for a transit visa before you go to Turkey if you’re a U.S. citizen.

Find your consulate

If you’re inside the U.S, you can find your “Jurisdiction” (i.e. based on the State you live in) here:

Los Angeles Consulate: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, and Hawaii.

Chicago Consulate: Illinois, Iowa. Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

New York Consulate: Connecticut. Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maine- Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Vermont, and Puerto Rico.

Houston Consulate: Arkansas, Alabama, Louisiana, Mississipi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas.

Washington, D.C. Consulate: District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and the entire United States

Gather the required documents
  • You will need to check the website or consulate that you found up above for your latest required documents.

Submit the information

Contact the consulate to find out whether you can apply by mail, but, in most cases, you will need to apply in person.

Wait for approval

That’s it! After a period of waiting, the Turkish consulate will give to you your brand new visa for Turkey. Congratulations!
