This visa is also known as the Short stay visa (Schengen). The Schengen Agreement establishes a unified type of visa for short stays (up to 90 days) for the participant European countries. It allows the holder to travel freely in all these countries and it will be issued by the Embassy or Consulate of the country of your main destination, the one where you will spend the longer period of time.   • Visa required for U.S. citizens:  U.S. citizens may enter Spain for up to 90 days for tourist or business purposes without a visa.  Note that Spain is a member of the Schengen Countries.
    • Your passport should be valid for at least three months beyond the period of stay.
    • You need sufficient funds, evidence of hotel reservations or an official letter of invitation if you will stay with family or friends, and a return airline ticket.

Find your closest consulate

Gather Documentation

Gather the required documents and follow the procedures for the “Short stay (Schengen) visa.”

Submit information

Submit the information that you gathered in Step 3 to the consulate that you located in Step 2.

Depending on the consulate you might be required to make an appointment to apply in person. Your consulate website will have details on whether you will need to make an appointment in order to submit an application or if you can apply by mail.

Receive Visa

Congratulations! After a period of waiting, the Spain Consulate/Embassy will give to you your brand new Spanish visa.
