Nigeria Direct Transit Visa

Nigeria Direct Transit Visa

If you are going through Nigeria en route to somewhere else, you might need to get a Direct Transit Visa for Nigeria.  This type of visa is valid for a stay of up to 48 hours.

Go to my Nigeria visa page for information on how to get other visas for Nigeria.

I’ll break everything down for you below about how to go about getting the Nigeria Direct Transit Visa.

Visa required for U.S. citizens before you go to Nigeria:  Yes.  U.S. citizens require a passport and a Nigeria visa to enter the country, and should obtain the visa in advance from a Nigerian embassy or consulate.

Visa required for non-U.S. citizens before you go to Nigeria:  Everyone except members of one of the fifteen (15) ECOWAS states needs a visa in order to get into Nigeria.

1
Find your closest consulate
2
Gather documentation

The official list of required documents is here at the Nigeria Immigration Service website.

3
Pay Visa Fees
  • In addition to the fees that you will have to pay for the visa, you will also have to pay a “processing fee.”
  • Good practice is to call up the embassy or consulate to confirm the fee amounts.
4
Submit materials

Submit your required materials from Step 2 and visa fee from Step 3 to the embassy or consulate you found in Step 1.

5
Receive your visa
  • Congratulations!  The Embassy (or Consulate General) of Nigeria will give to you your brand new Nigeria visa.
