How to Get a Tourist Visa for Colombia

Colombia Tourist Visa

Colombia Tourist Visa

Going to Colombia for some rest and relaxation?  You might need to get a tourist visa for Colombia.

I traveled to Cartagena, Colombia many years ago and had a blast.  It is a great place to go if you are interested in relaxing and soaking up some sun.  I highly recommend Islas del Rosario if you go.  Great day trip!

The first Colombia Tourist Visa must be processed at your Colombia embassy or consulate.  Thereafter, you can get your visa in Bogota provided that you enter Colombia with a valid visa.

(Go to my Colombia visa page for information on other types of visas for Colombia).

I’ll break everything down for you below about how to go about getting the Colombia Tourist Visa.

Visa required for U.S. citizens:  No.  U.S. citizens traveling to Colombia do not need a Colombia visa for a tourist stay of 90 days or less.

Visa required for non-U.S. citizens:  If you are not a U.S. citizen, you can check this document here.  Look under the column that says “Colombia Les Exige Visa”.  If it says “Si”, you need to get a visa for Colombia by going to your Consulate Office.

1
Find your closest consulate

If you’re inside the U.S, you can find your “Jurisdiction” (i.e. based on the State you live in).  Go to the link here and look for your State under the heading “Estado”.

If you’re outside of the U.S., find your consulate at this site here.

2
Gather documentation

Here is the official list of required documents from the Colombia Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores (Colombia Ministry of Foreign Relations).

3
Visa fee

The visa fee will depend on your nationality.  Go to your embassy or consulate website to find out the latest visa fee.

4
Submit materials

Submit your required materials from Step 2 and visa fee from Step 3 to the embassy or consulate you found in Step 1.

5
Receive your visa

Congratulations! The Embassy or Consulate General of Colombia will give to you your brand new Colombia visa.

  • If you applied in person, go pick it up.
  • If you applied by mail, wait until it gets to you.
