How to Get an Airport Transit Visa for Bulgaria

Bulgaria Airport Transit Visa

Bulgaria Airport Transit Visa

Citizens of certain countries who are traveling through Bulgaria en route to another country might need to get an Airport Transit Visa depending on where they are from.  The airport transit visa will entitle you, the foreigner, to cross or to stay in the international transit zone of the airport in the case of a transit landing or of changing flights for the purpose of continuing travel to another state.

(Go to my Bulgaria visa page for information on other types of visas for Bulgaria.)

I’ll break everything down for you below about how to go about getting the Bulgaria Airport Transit Visa.

  • Visa required for U.S. citizens before you go to Bulgaria:  No.
    • As a U.S. citizen, you are authorized to stay for a total of 90 days within a six-month period without a Bulgarian visa. This law is strictly enforced. You can file an application to extend your stay beyond the original 90 days for urgent or humanitarian reasons, but the application must be submitted to regional police authorities no later than five days prior to the end of the original 90-day period.
