When I’m looking for an apartment abroad, I normally like to start with the country-specific apartment search engines and portals. Here are the most popular ones.

  • ImmobilienScout24ImmobilienScout24 is really popular in Germany and is an excellent place to begin your search.
  • Immonet: Immonet is probably ImmobilienScout24’s largest competitor.
  • Meinestadt: Meinestadt is a pretty busy site, but it is a good site to check out after you’ve exhausted your options above.
  • Wg-Gesucht: Wg-Gesucht is not the most beautiful interface, but it is very popular and worth checking out.
  • Studenten-wg: This website is good for small apartments and commission-free options.

General Apartment and Housing Search Engines

If you have already exhausted your options above, check out the general apartment and housing search engines below.

  • Trip Advisor: Trip Advisor is a great destination for vacation rentals. Search around this site to see what you come up with.
  • HomeAway.comA giant in the vacation rental space with properties featured in countries around the world.
  • AirbnbAirbnb has properties displayed for over 185 countries. You can often get some pretty good deals for short term rentals.
