Netherlands Visa Short Stay
If you are going to the Netherlands for a short stay (less than 90 days) for transit, tourism, business, family, medical, cultural, official, diplomatic purposes or any other type of short term reason, you might need to get a Short Stay Visa for the Netherlands. This type of visa is also known as the Schengen visa.

I’ll break everything down for you below about how to go about getting the Netherlands Short Stay Visa.
Visa required for U.S. citizens before you go to the Netherlands: No.
- The Netherlands is a Schengen country which means that you may enter the Netherlands for up to 90 days for tourist or business purposes without a visa.
Visa required for non-U.S. citizens before you go to the Netherlands:
- This page here in Dutch at the Netherlands Immigration Department Official website has a list of the countries that need a visa for stays of 90 days or less when coming to the Netherlands. You can use Google Translate to change the website into your language.
If you’re inside the U.S.:
There are also Dutch consulates in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, and Miami.

- You will have to go to the website of the embassy or consulate you found in Step 1 to find the required documents that apply to you for this type of visa. The required documents should look a lot like what is posted here.
- The official Schengen Visa application is posted here.
The official visa fees for the Netherlands are posted here.
- Submit your required materials from Step 2 and visa fee from Step 3 to the embassy or consulate you found in Step 1.
- Each embassy and consulate will have different submission rules, so you will need to go to the website you found in Step 1 to find out the in-person or by-mail submission instructions.
Congratulations! The Embassy or Consulate of the Netherlands will give to you your brand new Netherlands visa.
