How to Get a Transit Visa for Kenya

Kenya Transit Visa

Kenya Transit Visa

Are you going through Kenya en route to another country? You might need to get a Transit Visa for Kenya. This kind of visa is for people intending to transit through Kenya to a third destination for periods not exceeding three days.

Go to my Kenya visa page for information on other types of visas for Kenya.

I’ll break everything down for you below about how to go about getting the Kenya Transit Visa.

Visa required for U.S. citizens before you go to Kenya: Yes.  Get an e-visa here.

Visa required for non-U.S. citizens before you go to Kenya:

1
Find your closest consulate

If you’re inside the U.S.:

Embassy of Kenya

You also have consulates in New York and Los Angeles.

If you’re outside of the U.S.:  Click here.

2
Gather documentation
3
Visa fee
  • You are going to need to gather the appropriate processing fee. This fee will be listed on your embassy or consulate website.
  • The official list of fees is listed here at the Kenya Department of Immigration website.
  • If you are applying within the United States, I recommend you go to your nearest Post Office and get a U.S. Postal Service Money Order.
  • Good practice is to call up the embassy or consulate to confirm the fee amounts as they are always subject to change.
4
Submit materials
  • Submit your required materials from Step 2 and visa fee from Step 3 to the embassy or consulate you found in Step 1.
  • Your embassy or consulate website will have detailed application submission instructions.
5
Receive your visa

Congratulations!  The Embassy or Consulate of Kenya will give to you your brand new Kenya visa.

  • If you applied in person, go pick it up.
  • If you applied by mail, wait until it gets to you.
