Dominican Republic Student Visa

Dominican Republic Student Visa

Going to the Dominican Republic to study? You will need to get a student visa for the Dominican Republic.

Student visas are issued for travelers whose purpose is to study in the Dominican Republic and who have already been accepted by a Dominican educational institution. This visa must be renewed each year for as long as you fulfill the conditions required.

Go to my Dominican Republic visa page for information on other types of visas for the Dominican Republic.

I’ll break everything down for you below about how to go about getting the Student Visa for the Dominican Republic.

Visa required for U.S. citizens: No, but you will need to purchase a tourist card upon arrival at the airport.

Visa required for non-U.S. citizens: If you are not a U.S. citizen, check this page here to see if you need a visa.

1
Find your closest consulate

If you’re inside the U.S, you apply at your closest consulate on this site here, but the consulates I have listed below are the only ones that have clear-cut information on how to apply for various visas. Note that the documents required for various visas change from consulate to consulate. Also, the New York website indicates nowhere what kind of visa services it provides.

I recommend you call them to find out where you need to apply, if you are in that area.

Washington D.C.
Chicago
Glendale, CA

If you’re outside of the U.S.: Click here.

2
Gather documentation

The official list of required documents is presented here at the Dominican Republic Ministry of Foreign Affairs website. You can see the English version here.

3
Visa fee

Visa fees vary depending on what website you go to. Contact your consulate to find out the latest fee.

If applying in the United States, the latest visa fee is posted here. I recommend you to go to the Post Office and get a Money Order.

4
Submit materials

Submit your required materials from Step 2 and visa fee from Step 3 to the embassy or consulate you found in Step 1.

Check your consulate or embassy’s website for hours of operation.

5
Receive your visa

Congratulations! You will receive your brand new Dominican Republic visa.

Visa applications are typically processed between 10 and 15 working days depending on date of travel, prior requests and staff availability.
