Formerly known as Zaire, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (D.R.C.) is a country that includes the Congo River basin, which spans over an area of about 1 million square kilometers (400,000 sq. mi.). The country is just massive and chock full of natural resources. It is connected to the Atlantic Ocean through a tiny sliver of land on the northern shores of the Congo.

Getting a tourist visa for the Democratic Republic of the Congo is not incredibly difficult. Fortunately, the Embassy of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Washington D.C. has pretty easy-to-understand information, making life a lot easier.

Below I will describe how to get a tourist visa for the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Visa required for U.S. citizens travelling to the Democratic Republic of the Congo: Yes. A passport, visa, and proof of yellow fever vaccination are required for entry.

Visa required for non-U.S. citizens: Yes. If you are not a national of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, you will need to get a visa before you arrive.

Gather documentation

The official list of required documents is listed on the application form provided by the Embassy of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Washington D.C.  The whole document is pretty self-explanatory, and the required documents are the usual stuff one needs to get visas for other countries around the world.

Visa fee

The visa fee depends on what type of visa you want to get.  The first page of the visa application form has the different categories of visas with their associated fees.

Submit your required materials from Step 2 and visa fee from Step 3 to the consulate you found in Step 1.

Congratulations! The Embassy of the Democratic Republic of the Congo will give to you your brand new visa.
