Bulgaria Short Stay Visa

Bulgaria Short Stay Visa

Citizens of certain countries who are traveling to Bulgaria for a short stay need to secure a short stay visa. A short stay visa is issued to a foreigner who enters Bulgaria once, twice or multiple times for a total term of stay up to 90 days within each 6 months as of the date of the first entry.

This type of visa is typically issued for the following purposes:

  • Private Visit
  • Business visit
  • Cultural exchange
  • Sport
  • Medical treatment
  • Tourism

(Go to my Bulgaria visa page for information on other types of visas for Bulgaria.)

I’ll break everything down for you below about how to go about getting the Bulgaria Short Stay Visa.

  • Visa required for U.S. citizens before you go to Bulgaria:  No.
    • As a U.S. citizen, you are authorized to stay for a total of 90 days within a six-month period without a Bulgarian visa. This law is strictly enforced. You can file an application to extend your stay beyond the original 90 days for urgent or humanitarian reasons, but the application must be submitted to regional police authorities no later than five days prior to the end of the original 90-day period.
